Final Creative Video Project

This was our very last project in Digital Media. Out assignment was simply to make a minute and a half creative video. That was it. There were no rules other than it had to be creative so I started brainstorming and got a good idea.

I had so much fun with the last music video project I did, that I decided to make another one. I love to play all sorts of instruments, but drums and guitar are my favorite. So, my plan was to record myself playing a song on all five instruments and put it together in a music video. The five instruments in the song are Drums, Bass Guitar, Lead Guitar, Rhythm Guitar, and Vocals.

To distinguish all the instruments in the video and to make it fun and creative, I decided to have a different color background for each instrument. My original plan was to use a green screen and film all of them with the same backdrops, and then go back and change the color. However, I decided against this because I didn’t want the background to blend and become fuzzy. So, I went to the Dollar Store and bought a whole bunch of different colored table cloths. I thought this was a really great idea so I bought two of each to be able to cover the background.

This process of recording was simply playing all of the instruments in my basement then putting all of the clips into Premiere Pro. I had SO MUCH FUN with this project. I think it has been the best project this year, because for the first time we got to do absolutely whatever we wanted. I learned so much about Premiere Pro and video editing.

The song I covered is called “In Bloom” by Neck Deep. Here is my final result:

Music Video Project

So now, our task was to create a music video to any song. The criteria was that it had to be at least one minute long. That was pretty much it. We didn’t actually put any of our own sound in the video however. All we did was record our video, then cut out the audio we recorded, and then put the audio of our song over it. Kind of like the silent video project but reverse. We were making the video rather than the audio.

So for this project I teamed up with my brother, and two other friends in my class. We recorded ourselves rocking out to the song on toy instruments. We had a lot of fun recording.

The plot of the video is that our main character and singer (Devan) picks up a doll and summons a guy in a skeleton mask (Gunnar) who chases him around the whole video. It was a random idea that we had a lot of fun with.

After all the editing, this was our final result:

The song is “Running in the 90’s” by Billy More.

This project was one of the most fun that I’ve had in this class. I learned a lot about Adobe Premier Pro and hope to use it more in the future.

Creating A 30-Second Commercial

So, you might remember about a week ago I uploaded a 30 second radio ad to my site. For this project our assignment was to use the audio only from that assignment and create a silent video and use the audio from our ad in the video.

My brother and I had some fun recording this video.  After we had taken all the shots, we put it into premier pro and deleted the sound from the shots we took and uploaded the radio ad audio.

After organizing and cutting all the clips here was the final result that I got out of this project:

This project was super fun and me and my brother had a lot of laughs. I learned so much about audio and video editing that I am excited to do more projects like this on my own in the future.

Film Making Camera Angles

After studying camera angles in film making for my next upcoming project, I have made a list of my top favorite and why I would like to use them.

COWBOY SHOT

This shot is called the cowboy shot because it originated in America when western movies started to be put in production. The idea of the shot was that you can get the whole person in the shot and also the cowboys gun. (The most important part) I think this will be a fun shot to incorporate because of how dramatic it is and I love the idea. Here is an example I took:

MEDIUM CLOSE-UP

The medium shot falls between a medium and close up. I would like to use this shot in my video because it gives the viewer a good image of the character and their upper person. Here is an example of a shot I took:

FULL SHOT

Full shot is just as it sounds. It is when you get a full image of the character from head to toe. I want to use this shot because if a character is using or wearing an intrucit costume I want the full image to be shown. Here is an example I took:

CHOKER

A choker is a very dramatic camera shot where the subjects entire face takes up the shot. It would be a very good shot when the subject is feeling a lot of emotion. Good for very dramatic or intense shots. Here is the example shot I took:

DUTCH ANGLE

A dutch angle is also called a tilt angle and it is simply when the camera shot is tilted a couple of degrees. This gives a feeling of confusion and disorder. This will be a very good shot for still frames when characters are thinking over a dramatic event. Here is the example I took:

I had a lot of fun with this project and learned a ton about new camera angles. I didn’t know about their importance and effectiveness but now I do. This overall was a very effective assignment.

Adding Audio to a Silent Video

For this project we took one of five different silent video clips from ancient times. We used Adobe Audition to add sound to the videos. With out microphones we would record our own samples on top of the video.

For sounds like simple walking to took my shoes off and simply tapped them on the table along with the video. This took many tries and a lot of coordination.

For shaping the dough I actually held the microphone up to my mouth and loudly chewed my gum. (I know it’s kind of gross) And then finally for the voices I recorded me and my brother both speaking different accents.

Here is my final result:

I had a lot of fun with this project and have learned a good deal about Adobe Audition.

UDMAF Project

UDMAF stands for Utah Digital Media Arts Festival. We as a class decided we all wanted to do submissions for the festival and have been working for about two weeks.

Since we had to use all our own pictures for the project I decided to use my little sister as a model for my project.

This was my final result of the project:

This was my original picture taken on a cloudy rainy day:

I started by getting a picture of a blue sky that I had taken previously and adding it into the background of the picture to fix the gray sky. I also put a tree down into the corner to give more color to the picture.

I took a picture of a balloon and copied it multiple times to put into the picture. There were a few fine things I had to do which involved putting a blue tint onto the window rather than the gray tint.

This was a super fun and I love using Photoshop. It is definitely my favorite program. I would love to do more projects like this in the future.

15 Second Animation!

For this next (really long) assignment in our Digital Media class, our project was to create a 15 second animation! This was a very long process. Here was the final result. (I didn’t have time to finish the entire thing in time)

I started by drawing the entire background in Adobe Illustrator and then added a symbol of a man with a motion tween of him moving across the screen and then added spinning wheels to the mix. I was planning on more events happening through the window if I had more time. Over all this was a really fun project.

Walking Animation With Motion Tweens

For our next assignment in Digital Media, we were assigned to take our walking animation that was posted earlier, and add motion to the background. Also known as motion tweens. I took the original post and added many layers to the back all moving at different speeds to give the illusion of distance.

After a few days of putting this all together, here is my final result:

I really enjoyed working on this assignment and it taught me a lot about the animation process.
